What is a Compliment Party?
- The value of using an honest compliment as a way to make another person feel good
- The importance of consciously acknowledging and thanking people who often get taken for granted
- You are NOT allowed to use your free drink tickets on yourself. You can only use them to get someone else a drink – someone who complimented you.
- Note: while complimenting the bartenders is encouraged, that does NOT count as a compliment for free-drink-getting purposes, sorry haha.
- Smile and introduce yourself to each member of the restaurant staff working the event, and thank them for their help
- Thank and appreciate the nice people who are working hard to enable us to have a great event
History and Schedule:
The first Compliment Party was held on July 26, 2014 at Sorriso Italian Trattoria in Boston, MA. It came to be after Sorriso’s then owners asked Lola if she knew anyone who could help bring new customers into the restaurant. Having already conceived of Spread Positivity but having not yet done any public events other than pet therapy, Lola saw this as a sign, and not coincidence. It should be the catalyst for her to turn Spread Positivity from a vague idea into real action. And fittingly, “Sorriso” means smile in both Italian and Portuguese
So, Lola committed to them that she would host and promote an event that would fill the restaurant and be at least break-even for them. Having given her word, she was now on the personal and financial hook to deliver on her promise. But she wanted the event to not only help her Sorriso friends, but to also promote the concept of Spread Positivity. She began to brainstorm, and soon the idea of the Compliment Party was born!
That first Compliment Party back in 2014 was a wonderful success and has led to many others over the subsequent years. Another is sure to be scheduled soon (after COVID!), so follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to be notified when it is.
